First Muslim and Pakistani former Mayor of Rochdale Cllr Sultan Ali called on the Chairman OPF Board of Governors Barrister Amjad Malik at his chambers in Rochdale on 1st of October 2017. Both discussed the progress of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation in a year and discussed in details issues which confront the overseas community in particular UK and Europe. Cllr Sultan Ali emphasized the need to galvanize support and information throughout UK and Europe on initiatives for expats and expressed his satisfaction on the ground work initiated by the current Board of Governors and the leadership, as well as role model initiative of the Chief Minister Punjab through OPC Punjab which is reaping benefits to the overseas community. He said that it’s heartening to know that Govt of Pakistan is taking people who had knowledge and experience to come and aide with their expertise to consult advice and help to resolve grievances, complaints and make representations on behalf of 8 million overseas Pakistanis.

 

Chairman briefed the OPF work in a year and actions taken to end red tape through advisory council, better services through online complaint system, overseas Pakistanis Commissions in provinces, improved website , portal to lodge complaint, 24 hours helpline and help desk at 8 international airports, open public meetings, and engagement through Advisory Council for betterment in the service delivery. He emphasized that the board has operated zero tolerance n corruption and in 18 months, BoG tried to bridle all issues which came to their notice. Chairman appreciated his role as he was part of the pioneer team along with late Cllr Ch Abdul Hameed, Razia Shamim MBE, Mr Saeed Ahmed Dar and Ghulam Rasool Shehzad to set up the Sahiwal working party which later on resulted in twinning between both towns Sahiwal and Rochdale

 

Cllr Sultan Ali appreciated the idea of promotion of image, service and investment of skills and talent to end brain drain amongst overseas community and offered his unconditional cooperation to OPF in this pursuit. The role model community activist was acknowledged by the Chairman Board of Governors of the OPF for his services to the promotion of awareness of rights and connectivity in UK & Pakistan.
