The Foreign Exchange Remittance Card (FERC) Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Finance through OPF in September, 2001 to encourage remittances by overseas Pakistanis through normal banking channels. Originally Gold and Silver cards were offered to those overseas Pakistanis who were remitting US$ 10,000 and US$2,500 in a year respectively, A wise range of incentives are being offered to these overseas Pakistanis including the following incentives/benefits:-
Separate counters for special handling at Arrival and Departure lounges at airports, and
Free issuance and renewal of passport on an urgent basis.
Keeping in view the big gap between
the two categories of cards and to increase the incentives for these
card holders, a proposal for introducing five categories of cards
with additional benefits was initiated by the Overseas Pakistanis
Division which was agreed and announced in the Budget Speech for
the Federal Budget 2006-07.
